The center tube was closed during the entire Ft. WashingtonWay reconstruction period from
mid-1998 to August 2000.
Access doors are located at the midpoint of each tube. This is a view looking west
from the northbound tube to the single-lane center tube. At the midpoint, the southbound
tube has diverged from the other two, and so a shorthall (less than 15ft. long) and 5 step
staircase leads between it and the center tube. (The door was locked when I took this
picture, or else I would have gotten a picture of itas well).
